a) Written Communication
Video editing is going to mean that you are involved with a lot of people within the entire production. Therefore, it is very important that you have a good written communication with everyone, as you are going to be talked to, emailed and have a lot of note taking to do when carrying out the role of a video editor. This is where I feel I certainly have a strength as I feel that my written communication skills are very good. I am good at note taking when someone is talking to me, and I am good at wording things for others to clearly understand.
b) Verbal Communication
When being a video editor, it is also very important that you have good verbal communication. This essentially goes hand in hand with written communication because they are going to done at the same time the majority of the time/ Again, I feel I have good verbal communication with people, which means that I don't have issues with bringing up something that I feel doesn't work within the edit, or if there is something that I would like to suggest. I'm not going to have an issue when trying to make myself heard.
c) Practical Production
Practical Production is one of, if not the most important thing when coming to be a video editor. This is simply because if you are not able to carry out your role and edit to a certain standard, or stick to deadlines then you won't be able to move up or even get many jobs are you will be unreliable when it comes to working for a company. This is also where I feel that I exceed within being a video editor. I am quick at editing to a good technical standard. I am good at keeping track of where I am. I am very organised which helps in case there is a time where my work needs to be passed of to someone else for any type of reason.
d) Creativity
Finally, creativity is reasonably important with the role of a video editor as you are going to something be asked by the director or whoever is with you in the editing room to get your idea of take on something that has been shot and whether it works and if there is anything that you think would work better when it comes to finishing the edit. Once again, I feel I am good at seeing things from the same perspective as the person I am editing for, and also thinking about how things could be changed to improve a specific shot or the way that something is done within the edit.
